In the world of sports, para athletes are making waves and redefining what it means to be an athlete. At Te Arawa, an inclusive swimming club, we believe that everyone who loves being in the water should have the opportunity to swim, regardless of their abilities.

The Importance of Inclusive Swimming
Inclusive swimming is about more than just getting in the pool. It’s about creating an environment where everyone, regardless of their physical or mental abilities, feels welcome and can be their best. 15% of the World’s population lives with a disability. Yet, many of these individuals face barriers to participating in sports and physical activities.
At Te Arawa, we are committed to breaking down these barriers. We believe that every swimmer, para athlete or not, should swim alongside each other to help develop and grow together. This approach not only fosters a sense of community but also encourages mutual respect and understanding among all our members.
Siobhan’s Inspiring Journey
Growing up, she always wanted to be an athlete, and she hasn’t let her disability define her. Today, she is not only successful in her sport but also an inspiring coach who motivates others. Siobhan is a testament to the fact that with determination and support, anyone can achieve their dreams.
“Starting the club, I wanted to be open to anyone who loves being in the water. Siobhan was my first para-athlete. I am interested in the person who joins me, not the athlete,” says the founder of Te Arawa, Henk.
