MEET YOUR COACHES

ALDONA

Ika Iti

Aldona, besides her daytime job she co-runs and teaches at Orange Swim School and coaches twice per week at the Aquatic Centre, the Ika Iti group. To add to the busy schedule she trains daily with the Masters morning squad. Mother of 3 boys and former representative of Poland in butterfly and fin swimming.

CARA

Ika Iti

Cara, currently studying at Rotorua Girls High School (last year). She has done her share in open water swimming, Epic and Ocean Swim Series and is currently a fanatic rower, recently representing her school at the Maadi-Cup.

ELISE

Ika Nui

Elise (currently on maternity leave) mother of 3 boys. In her younger years she was Head Girl at JPC and a swimming fanatic – coached by Henk, at the Waikite Swimming Club. She competed at the National level and international fin swimming. Elise is also part of the Te Arawa Swimming committee.

LUCY

Lucy, recently joined the coaching team helping out the Ika Nui – junior squads on Fridays. Like Cara, a fanatic rower, racing the Madi-Cup, who in her younger years swam with Aldona. Lucy attends JPC.

DYLAN

Dylan recently started coaching learning the skills from his big brother Adrian on a Monday. He is a National Level competitive swimmer and studies at Western Heights High School.

ADRIAN

Adrian is in his last year studying Human Performance and Sports Science at Waikato University. He has done years of competitive swimming at a National level and still trains daily supporting the senior swimmers. He runs the Ika Nui – junior squad, mentoring Lucy and Dylan, also has attended – coaching NZ Para swimming camps and Parafed Waikato while at Uni. Once a week he coaches with the Para squad.

HENK

Hammerheads 

Henk started coaching in Rotorua in 1996 and has seen his share of local swimming clubs. In 2012 he decided it was time for a change and started his own concept of running a club which is now Te Arawa Swimming. He overlooks all squads, is actively involved in Para swimming and coaches daily the senior squad (with Adrian) and masters morning group. Competitive swimmer in The Netherlands as a youngster and continued swimming with the monovin representing his home country at a World Level.

MASTERS

A team of coaches, Grant, Donal, Laurance all masters swimmer themselves who have competed at events like Iron Man, Iron Maori, cycling, marathon and triathlon events aswell as Xterra. A keen and motivated team who all have day jobs as well This team runs the Monday and Wednesday Masters groups.

SIOBHAN

Siobhan, started swimming with Te Arawa Swimming in 2017, multiple National Swimming medal winner. Currently working for Hallberg Trust and involved with Parafed BOP. She has swapped her togs for the bike and cycles the roads of Rotorua and the track in Cambridge. has represented NZ on the track at the Oceania champs in Australia. With Henk overlooking the Para program.

CLARE

Clare, originally from GB and a keen sports woman, often seen in the AM masters squad aswell as a keen biker and runner. She is a former teacher at the Kea Street Specialist school and WHPS and currently works for Ko Taku Reo – Deaf Education New Zealand.

KELLY

Kelly, like Clare from GB mother to Ivy-Rose and a keen sports woman who has done her share in Iron Man and running events (Rotorua Marathon). Kelly Currently works at Te Whatu Ora with the adult community mental health team.

JASON

Jason, new to coaching Para swimming and learning from big brother Adrian. He is a casual swimmer and Western Heights High School student and also teaches swimming at Orange Swim School.
